Ring resizing in Zurich: bigger or smaller
A ring that pinches, or slips off almost every time you wash your hands, stops being a pleasure to wear. At our atelier in Zurich District 4 we check your ring, measure your current and your desired size, and tell you honestly whether and how it can be made bigger or smaller.
If your ring came from émin, resizing is simply part of the service, we know the setting and the material already. If you bring a ring from another jeweller, we take a proper look first and tell you openly what's possible before we touch anything.

What actually happens when a ring is resized
Resizing a ring means removing or adding metal at the shank, usually at the bottom, where it's barely noticeable afterwards. How much is possible depends on the metal and the setting: 18ct gold and platinum can usually be resized well, often by one to two sizes in either direction.
It gets harder with rings whose setting is fully paved with stones all the way round, or so-called tension rings, where the stone is held only by the pressure of the shank. In those cases we check first, carefully, whether and how far the ring can move at all without putting the setting at risk.

What we don't offer
émin doesn't offer general jewellery repairs, so no new jump rings, no clasps and no chain repairs. We focus solely on ring resizing, honestly and without false promises.
Frequently asked questions
Not every one, but most. Rings with a continuous, even shank can usually be resized well, either up or down. With tension rings, or rings fully paved with stones all the way round, resizing is often limited or not possible at all. We check your ring at the atelier and tell you honestly what's possible.
Yes, we do this regularly. We check the setting, material and condition carefully before giving you an assessment. With a ring we didn't make ourselves we don't know the setting from the start, so we take a little extra time for the check compared to a ring we designed.
It depends on the ring, the metal, and how many sizes we need to change. After checking it at the atelier we work out the price openly before starting any work. You get a first estimate already at the initial appointment, with no obligation.
For most rings we plan a few days. If the setting is more elaborate, or a stone needs to be temporarily removed for the work, it can take a little longer. We tell you the timeframe directly during the check.
Not if it's done carefully. Before starting, we check whether the stones or setting would be affected by stretching or shrinking, and we tell you honestly. For critical cases like tension rings or continuous pavé settings, we'd rather advise against resizing than take a risk.
No, we deliberately focus on ring resizing. Chain repairs, new jump rings or clasps aren't part of what we offer. For resizing a ring, though, we're happy to help, whether it's one of ours or from another shop.
Yes, we work by appointment only, in person at the atelier. That way we can take the time needed for a proper check without you having to wait. Booking takes a few minutes online, just bring your ring along.
