Toi et moi engagement ring

Toi et moi: two stones meeting on your hand

A toi et moi ring, literally you and me, carries two stones instead of one, meeting on an open band. The two usually differ in cut, a pear beside an emerald cut for example, sometimes also in colour. At émin in Zurich, every toi et moi ring is built entirely to measure, you choose both stones yourself and decide how they relate to each other.

That duality is exactly what makes the ring special: two distinct stones that still form one whole, an obvious image for two people choosing a shared future. During the consultation we show you how different stone pairings look, and work out the price with you openly before any work begins.

What makes a toi et moi ring special

Two stones, one image

Two distinct stones meet on a band and form one whole together, a direct symbol for two people coming together.

Freely combinable cuts

Classically a pear and an emerald cut sit side by side, but two oval or two round stones combine just as well, whatever suits the two of you.

Possible with two metal tones too

The two sides can be set in different metal, yellow gold beside white gold for example, for a ring that shows the duality in colour as well.

Custom-made for your finger

Like every émin ring, we fit the open band to one specific hand, so both stones sit calmly and the ring stays comfortable for years.

Two stones, one ring: what matters when choosing

In a toi et moi ring, two stones face each other directly with no metal in between, so any difference in size or shape stands out more than in a single solitaire. A proven pairing is a pear pointing inward beside an emerald cut, because the lines of the two shapes complement rather than fight each other.

Just as well, you can choose two nearly identical stones, two round brilliants in slightly different sizes for instance, which reads calmer and less contrasting. During the consultation we lay out several real-stone pairings side by side, so you can see which pair really fits your idea.

Honest about the open band

Because a toi et moi ring has no continuous metal between the two stones, the band is more delicate at that point than a closed ring. We build the setting as sturdy as possible, but recommend taking the ring off for heavy manual work.

Frequently asked questions

Toi et moi is French for you and me. It describes a ring with two stones that meet directly on an open band, with no metal between them. Two distinct stones forming one whole is, for many couples, a fitting image for two people coming together.

No, that's popular but not a fixed rule. Classically a pear and an emerald cut sit side by side, but two matching round cuts or two ovals combine just as well. During the consultation we show you different pairings with real stones.

Yes, that's actually common. Some couples deliberately choose two different coloured stones or different sizes to show two individual personalities. We give you honest advice on which combination reads balanced and which feels too busy, before you order anything.

A complete solitaire with a 1 carat lab-grown diamond in a classic prong setting, in 18k gold or platinum, also available in 14k gold on request, starts at CHF 1'900 for one stone, and the second stone comes as a surcharge depending on size and cut. We work out the exact figure with you openly during the consultation, before you decide on anything final.

We build the setting as sturdy as we can, but an open band is inherently more delicate than a closed ring, since there's no continuous metal between the stones. For heavy manual work we recommend taking the ring off and storing it safely.

Yes, we work by appointment only, in person in Zurich District 4 or by video. That way you get our full attention and see the stone pairings in real daylight, which matters when choosing two stones that need to work together.

For a custom-made toi et moi ring we usually plan three to five weeks from order, depending on stone availability for both cuts. If you have a fixed proposal date, tell us right at the start so we can see what's possible together.
