An engraving turns a beautiful piece into a unique one. At émin in Zurich District 4 we engrave pendants, bracelets, rings and studs: with names, a date, your own handwriting or even a fingerprint. We show you which technique fits which piece before you decide.

Four types of engraving
Each technique has its own character. We advise you on which one fits your piece and your idea.
Laser engraving
Fine, precise and clearly legible, even in small type. The classic choice for names, dates or short messages inside a ring.
Hand engraving
Cut by hand, with the visible handwriting of the engraver. Slightly bolder in line, but with a warm, crafted feel.
Fingerprint engraving
A fingerprint, finely reproduced on the inside of a ring or the back of a pendant. A detail that never happens twice.
Your own handwriting
A real signature or a handwritten word, scanned and engraved. It doesn't get much more personal.
Why an engraving is more than an extra
An engraving usually costs little compared to the piece itself, but changes its meaning entirely. A ring with a date inside, a pendant with a name: suddenly the piece is no longer interchangeable, it belongs to exactly this one story.
We plan the engraving in from the start, not as an afterthought. For rings we check how much space is left inside and whether the text stays legible at the right size. For pendants and bracelets we show you whether the engraving works better visible on the outside or hidden inside.

Engraving on wedding and engagement rings
For wedding rings, engraving is almost a tradition: a date, initials or a short line on the inside. Engagement rings can carry a small engraving too, often invisible from the outside, but felt every time the ring comes off.

That depends on the material, the size and the idea behind it. For small, clear text inside a ring, laser engraving usually works best, while a warmer, more personal stroke calls for hand engraving. We show you both directly on the piece before you decide.
Yes, that's possible. We need a clean print, either as an ink print on paper or a sharp photo, then we transfer it as a fine engraving to the inside of a ring or the back of a pendant. We show you the result beforehand.
Yes, write the word or signature you want on a piece of paper, we scan it and engrave it true to the original. This option is especially popular for rings and pendants meant to carry a very personal character.
That depends on the space on the piece. Inside a ring band, 15 to 25 characters are usually clearly legible, a pendant allows a little more. We check together how long the text can be so it stays clearly readable even after years.
Yes, an existing piece can often be engraved later too, for example after a wedding or the birth of a child. Just bring it in or send us photos, and we'll tell you whether and how a later engraving would work.
A simple engraving on an existing piece usually takes just a few days. If the engraving is part of a new, custom-made piece, we include it in the normal production time of one to four weeks, depending on the piece.
The price depends on the technique, the length and the piece, a laser engraving with a few characters costs noticeably less than an elaborate fingerprint or handwriting engraving. We calculate the exact price openly once we know what you have in mind.
